A Monster Calls Film Adaptation Due in 2016..

A Monster Calls is currently being adapted for the big screen starring Sigourney Weaver and Liam Neeson.

The fantasy film is based on the best-selling novel by Patrick Ness, and follows the story of 13-year-old Conor, who tries to cope with the trauma of being bullied at school and his mother’s terminal illness by escaping into a fantasy world with the help of a tree monster, whose motives are suspect.

Aliens star Sigourney plays the boy’s tough grandmother, while Schindler’s List star Liam is cast as the sinister tree monster who visits Conor, played by youngster Lewis MacDougall.  The film is being directed by award-winning Juan Antonio Bayona, the man behind previous big screen hits including The Impossible and The Orphanage.

Plot Synopsis:

An unflinching, darkly funny, and deeply moving story of a boy, his seriously ill mother, and an unexpected monstrous visitor.

At seven minutes past midnight, thirteen-year-old Conor wakes to find a monster outside his bedroom window. But it isn't the monster Conor's been expecting-- he's been expecting the one from his nightmare, the nightmare he's had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments. The monster in his backyard is different.

It's ancient. And wild. And it wants something from Conor. Something terrible and dangerous. It wants the truth. From the final idea of award-winning author Siobhan Dowd-- whose premature death from cancer prevented her from writing it herself-- Patrick Ness has spun a haunting and darkly funny novel of mischief, loss, and monsters both real and imagined.
