Stephen King`s 'The Mist' to Be Adapted into a TV Series...

The Mist by Stephen King

A new television series based on Stephen King’s 1980 horror novella and Frank Darabont’s 2007 film adaptation is in in the works, Dimension TV has announced.

The project, which has King’s blessing, is being written by Christian Torpe, creator of the Danish TV series Rita. Taking cues from King’s book and Darabont’s movie, the series is to tell an original story about a seemingly innocuous mist that seeps into a small town and plunges it into chaos, stirring up psychological frights and otherworldly creatures.

“The terror and drama in Stephen King’s novella are so vast that we felt serialized television is the best place to explore them in greater depth,” said Bob Weinstein, co-chairman of the Weinstein Company and Dimension Films, in the announcement. “With this show, Christian has created a fascinating band of characters and a story with infinite scares.”

Jackie Collins, best-selling author, dies at 77..

Jackie Collins, who wrote the kind of novels that millions of readers devour and teenagers used to read by flashlight under the covers at night, died on Saturday in Los Angeles. She was 77.

“It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the death of our beautiful, dynamic and one of a kind mother, Jackie Collins, who died of breast cancer today,” Collins’ family said in a statement.

“She lived a wonderfully full life and was adored by her family, friends and the millions of readers who she has been entertaining for over four decades. She was a true inspiration, a trail blazer for women in fiction and a creative force. She will live on through her characters but we already miss her beyond words.”

Her first novel, “The World Is Full of Married Men,” was so steamy that for a time it was banned in Australia and South Africa after its publication in 1968. Ms. Collins gleefully recounted in a magazine interview a confrontation with the romance writer Barbara Cartland, who called the book “filthy and disgusting” and blamed her “for all the perverts in England.”

She will be sorely missed by her millions of fans.

Most Anticipated Books This Fall 2015...

A magnum opus for our morally complex times from the author of Freedom

Young Pip Tyler doesn't know who she is. She knows that her real name is Purity, that she's saddled with $130,000 in student debt, that she's squatting with anarchists in Oakland, and that her relationship with her mother--her only family--is hazardous. But she doesn't have a clue who her father is, why her mother chose to live as a recluse with an invented name, or how she'll ever have a normal life.

Enter the Germans. A glancing encounter with a German peace activist leads Pip to an internship in South America with The Sunlight Project, an organization that traffics in all the secrets of the world--including, Pip hopes, the secret of her origins. TSP is the brainchild of Andreas Wolf, a charismatic provocateur who rose to fame in the chaos following the fall of the Berlin Wall. Now on the lam in Bolivia, Andreas is drawn to Pip for reasons she doesn't understand, and the intensity of her response to him upends her conventional ideas of right and wrong.

Purity is a grand story of youthful idealism, extreme fidelity, and murder. The author of The Corrections and Freedom has imagined a world of vividly original characters--Californians and East Germans, good parents and bad parents, journalists and leakers--and he follows their intertwining paths through landscapes as contemporary as the omnipresent Internet and as ancient as the war between the sexes. Purity is the most daring and penetrating book yet by one of the major writers of our time.

From New York Times and internationally bestselling author Isabel Allende, an exquisitely crafted love story and multigenerational epic that sweeps from San Francisco in the present-day to Poland and the United States during the Second World War.

In 1939, as Poland falls under the shadow of the Nazis, young Alma Belasco’s parents send her away to live in safety with an aunt and uncle in their opulent mansion in San Francisco. There, as the rest of the world goes to war, she encounters Ichimei Fukuda, the quiet and gentle son of the family’s Japanese gardener. Unnoticed by those around them, a tender love affair begins to blossom. Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the two are cruelly pulled apart as Ichimei and his family—like thousands of other Japanese Americans—are declared enemies and forcibly relocated to internment camps run by the United States government. Throughout their lifetimes, Alma and Ichimei reunite again and again, but theirs is a love that they are forever forced to hide from the world.

Decades later, Alma is nearing the end of her long and eventful life. Irina Bazili, a care worker struggling to come to terms with her own troubled past, meets the elderly woman and her grandson, Seth, at San Francisco’s charmingly eccentric Lark House nursing home. As Irina and Seth forge a friendship, they become intrigued by a series of mysterious gifts and letters sent to Alma, eventually learning about Ichimei and this extraordinary secret passion that has endured for nearly seventy years.

How does marriage work? If convention is set aside and is no longer there to guide...what then?

#1
New York Times bestselling author Stephanie Laurens brings you THE ADVENTURERS QUARTET, a riveting blend of Regency-era high seas adventure, a mystery shrouded in the heat of tropical jungles, and the passionate romances of four couples and their unexpected journeys into love.

The instant Captain Declan Frobisher laid eyes on Lady Edwina Delbraith, he knew she was the lady he wanted as his wife. The scion of a seafaring dynasty accustomed to success, he discovered that wooing Edwina was surprisingly straightforward—not least because she made it plain that she wanted him as much as he wanted her.

Declan's vision of marriage was of a gently-reared wife to grace his arm, to manage his household, and to bear his children. He assumed that household, children, and wife would remain safely in England while he continued his life as an explorer sailing the high seas.

Declan got his wish—up to a point. He and Edwina were wed. As for the rest—his vision of marriage…

And will Greyson discover his true destiny in time to stop him?

Book Review:

Progeny of Gods was a good book although I didn't like the excessive explanations which made the scenes overly drawn out. As a reader I don’t usually pick up the sci/fi fantasy genre, but I am glad I agreed to review this one.

I enjoyed the scenery descriptions and found the writers imagination to be interesting as well as unique.

Greyson is a very strong character with a lot of depth in search of his destiny. The supporting characters all also had their own distinct personality which made this a good read.

This was a well written story about light vs dark which I don't regret picking up.The action compensated for the few boring scenes I found.

Adaptation of Beck Weathers 'Left for Dead' opens in Cinemas September 16...

In 1996 Beck Weathers and a climbing team pushed toward the summit of Mount Everest. Then a storm exploded on the mountain, ripping the team to shreds, forcing brave men to scratch and crawl for their lives. Rescuers who reached Weathers saw that he was dying, and left him.

Left for Dead : My Journey Home from Everest
Twelve hours later, the inexplicable occurred. Weathers appeared, blinded, gloveless, and caked with ice—walking down the mountain. In this powerful memoir, now featuring a new Preface, Weathers describes not only his escape from hypothermia and the murderous storm that killed eight climbers, but the journey of his life.

This is the story of a man’s route to a dangerous sport and a fateful expedition, as well as the road of recovery he has traveled since; of survival in the face of certain death, the reclaiming of a family and a life; and of the most extraordinary adventure of all: finding the courage to say yes when life offers us a second chance.

In the film adaptation titled Everest releasing in Cinemas Sepetmber 16, Jake Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightley, Josh Brolin (who plays Weathers), Jason Clarke, John Hawkes, and Sam Worthington  will star as the hikers.

Brolin plays the gruff Texas pathologist Beck Weathers, who had been left for dead in the snow when rescuers could not rouse him. He manages to get back on his feet, aided, the film suggests, by images that appear to him of his son and daughter and his wife Peaches (Robin Wright).
